Quick + Easy Felt Heart Garland
This super easy felt heart garland is just what you need to add that adorable romantic touch to your home for Valentine’s Day.
As with many things right now, I’m getting this post out later than I had planned. All that comes with being pregnant and getting everything ready for this sweet baby girl has taken priority.
Our Christmas decor (including the Christmas banners and Felt Nativity stable I made) was finally boxed up and stored away last week so I figured it was time to put some Valentine’s Day things in their place. I whipped this felt heart garland up in about half an hour today, and that was with plenty of puppy interruptions in between. It was so easy! and look how cute it came out.
Here’s how you can make your own.
All you need is:
- Red and Pink felt
- thread
- and either a sewing machine or a needle
I made mine on my sewing machine so that’s what I’ll be showing you, but you can absolutely use a basic sewing needle and do it by hand if you don’t have a machine.
Your first step is to cut out your felt hearts. I don’t have a template for this but if you need one just do a quick google search and you’ll find and endless supply of printable options. I did two different size hearts.
Stitch them together
Lay your hearts out in the order you want them stitched. To stitch them together you’ll take the bottom heart and feed it into your sewing machine and stitch through the middle of it from bottom to top. Make sure to back stitch once or twice on both the top and bottom of each heart.
When you’ve reached the top of your heart, lift the needle and presser foot. Without cutting any strings, pull the heart back away from the needle. Pull until the strings attaching it to the machine are about 3 inches long (refer to my pictures above.)
Set the next heart under the presser foot and begin stitching through the middle just as you did the last one. Repeat until your garland is your desired length.
On the last heart, pull the strings out a good 5-7 inches and cut them.
The threads between the hearts may not lay evenly. Because you remembered to back stitch at the top and bottom of each heart, you can safely cut one of the two strings right off.
On the top heart, leave the two long strings so you can tie the garland onto something.
I made three and tied them to a curtain rod. You could just as easily make one long one and string it over a doorway OR do multiple shorter ones and tie them to a embroidery hoop to make a Valentine’s Day mobile!
And that’s it. Yes. It’s really that easy.
Now What are you waiting for? Go make your own easy felt heart garland!
