Decorating With Fall Leaves
You may ask me, “Johanna, how is it that you’re decorating your subtropical home with fall leaves? I thought you lived on an island that was home to neither maple leaves nor changing seasons?” Well let me tell you.
My family is awesome. That’s how.
My mum and my younger brother got together and took the time to wax dip a whole bunch of colorful fall leaves and send them to me! How cool is that?
The box of leaves was labeled “A bit of New Hampshire for your Thanksgiving decor.”
If you’ve ever been to New Hampshire, or any part of New England, during the fall then you know that the foliage is no small thing. It’s what makes a NE autumn. So the fact that they sent me that little bit of home is special.
I knew I had to find some way to properly display them and after a few tries (I tried hanging them against my burgundy curtains but the folds of fabric gobbled them up. I tried hanging them off of the curtain rod but the breeze through the window was making a tornado of them) I found the perfect spot.
I simply used a heavy duty black thread and strung the leaves over the doorway leading into my kitchen.
The leaves at the top of the doorway are hung onto the thread with tiny clothes pins (so cute, right?) which you can find HERE.
For the sides of the door frame, where the leaves hang straight down, I used a sewing needle and stitched the leaves onto the thread. I just had to put one tiny stitch in each leaf and it was enough to keep them in place.
Decorating with these fall leaves was so easy and I love the touch it gives the house! Perfect for the season and upcoming holiday.
